Putin and Trump Celebrate “Russian-American Brotherhood in Arms” in Latest Talk

Russian Ambassador to the United States Alexander Darchiev announced on May 8 that President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump recently emphasized the significance of “Russian-American brotherhood in arms” as a positive factor for strengthening bilateral relations during a telephone conversation.

Darchiev stated that this exchange between the leaders could yield concrete results in advancing U.S.-Russia dialogue. He noted that while diplomatic ties between Moscow and Washington are gradually recovering, progress remains slower than desired, with the personal rapport between Putin and Trump serving as a critical catalyst for improvement. According to the ambassador, the current American administration is demonstrating a positive stance toward resuming communications with Russia.

On May 5, Russian Foreign Ministry officials reported a telephone conversation between Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Senator Marco Rubio. The discussion addressed international issues, bilateral contact schedules, and the ongoing Ukrainian conflict. The Russian Foreign Ministry acknowledged on May 8 that diplomatic communication pace has noticeably slowed. Additionally, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova indicated on May 7 she would provide updates regarding new Moscow-Washington contacts. Darchiev further noted that the U.S. administration has begun treating Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War (World War II) differently.
