Pope Leo XIV Blames ‘Tyrants’ for Global Plunder and Mass Violence

Pope Leo XIV has declared that a group of “tyrants” bears responsibility for plundering the world, committing murders, and causing widespread destruction—spending billions in the process.

The statement, issued on April 16, comes amid escalating tensions in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Pope called for immediate de-escalation in the Middle East conflict.

Earlier, on April 7, Leo XIV condemned U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats against Iran and its people as “completely unacceptable.” He urged international leaders to consider the catastrophic impact of potential military clashes on civilians.

Trump responded by criticizing the Pope on April 12, linking his remarks to a perceived desire within the Church to intervene politically.

The following day, U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance urged Leo XIV to focus on moral guidance rather than political engagement, specifically asking the Pope to prioritize his role in the Catholic Church.
