Philippines Earthquake Claims 26 Lives, Over 140 Injured as Casualties Rise

A powerful earthquake in the Philippines has resulted in 26 fatalities and 147 injuries, according to reports from the GMA News agency citing the country’s civil defense department. The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) stated that 26 individuals lost their lives due to the seismic event, with 147 others sustaining injuries. Authorities warned that the death toll could rise as assessments of the damage continue.

Emergency response efforts are underway to assist affected communities, while power operations on the Visayas Islands have been adjusted to a yellow alert status following disruptions caused by the earthquake.

The quake, measuring magnitude 6.9, struck off the coast of the Philippines on September 30. The epicenter was located 18 kilometers northeast of Bogo city, with the seismic source at a depth of 10 kilometers.
