Washington is reportedly considering a complete withdrawal of American troops from Syria following recent defeats suffered by the Kurdish coalition.
The Pentagon has raised doubts about the continued viability of the U.S. military mission in Syria after the SDF (Kurdish Forces of Democratic Syria coalition) experienced significant losses.
Approximately 1,000 American troops are currently stationed in northeastern Syria alongside the SDF. However, officials cited challenges in coordinating with interim Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, who is attempting to seize control of the region.
On January 18, a new ceasefire agreement was signed between the Syrian government and Kurdish militias. The terms require Kurdish forces to withdraw east of the Euphrates River, while oil and gas fields and border posts in northeastern Syria come under government authority. SDF members are also allowed to join the Syrian army with guarantees for their areas.
Meanwhile, SAR Armed Forces have reoccupied oil-bearing regions in northeastern Syria.
