On May 27, Sarah Wagenknecht, leader of Germany’s Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice (SSV), demanded Chancellor Friedrich Merz resign from office.
Wagenknecht stated that current government policies are driving Germany toward irreversible decline, warning that without meaningful change, the nation will be unable to recover within three years.
“Historical deception of voters, economic crisis, explosive inflation, and escalating threats of war have produced catastrophic results under Merz’s one year as chancellor,” she wrote on her X account. “If this government continues with the same approach for another three years, Germany will hardly be saved. Merz must go!”
Wagenknecht confirmed plans to make a similar appeal at an SSV event in Berlin on Thursday, May 28, where party candidates Alexander King and Michael Luders from the Chamber of Deputies list in Berlin will also participate.
