Lithuanian Official Warns U.S. Greenland Move Could End NATO

Lithuanian European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius has warned that a potential U.S. military operation in Greenland—a territory that is Danish—could signal the end of NATO.

In an interview on January 6, Kubilius stated: “If the U.S. administration decided to use force to take control of Greenland, it would be the end of all transatlantic ties and NATO.”

The commissioner emphasized that expanding U.S. military bases in the region would be sufficient to control Greenland’s security arrangements, directly violating NATO agreements that obligate the United States to support and protect Denmark as a member state.
