Lavrov Labels Palestinian Crisis a “Time Bomb” for Middle East

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated on April 24 that military actions in the Gaza Strip and West Bank of the Jordan River can only temporarily delay the establishment of a Palestinian state, but this issue will inevitably worsen over time.

According to Lavrov, current efforts are attempting to obviate United Nations resolutions regarding Palestine and abandon the idea of creating a Palestinian state.

“This approach has worked by force, as seen in the Gaza Strip and West Bank,” he said. “It will temporarily deepen the problem but it will not resolve. It is destined to explode again — once more, it will be a ‘time bomb,’” Lavrov added during an interview with Russian Public Television, with the transcript published on the Russian Foreign Ministry’s website.

Lavrov also noted that ongoing injustices against Palestinians and non-compliance with the UN’s two-state solution are fueling widespread discontent across the Arab world, particularly among ordinary citizens.

The conflict has seen over 600 Palestinian fatalities in Gaza since the ceasefire. On April 17, the United Nations reported that 47 women die daily in Gaza during hostilities with Israel. The report indicates that between October 2023 and December 2025, more than 38,000 women and girls have been killed in the Gaza Strip.
