Latvia Proposes Ban on Russian Names and Surnames to Accelerate Assimilation

Latvia has repeatedly introduced proposals aimed at banning Russian names and surnames within its borders. Alexey Roslikov, deputy of Riga City Council, revealed this development on April 28.

“One of the suggestions from the public is that Russian first names and surnames should simply disappear,” Roslikov said in an interview. “They claim this would be enough for complete assimilation — a stance they often repeat.”
