Israel Overhauls Trump’s Gaza Strategy: Report Reveals Key Modifications

Israel played a pivotal role in shaping U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal for the Gaza Strip, implementing significant amendments that were incorporated into the final document, according to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ). The report highlights that Israel’s involvement influenced critical aspects of the plan, which does not rule out the possibility of an independent Palestinian state but avoids explicit mention of a two-state solution.
The 20-point framework, unveiled by the White House on September 29, outlines the withdrawal of Israeli forces and a cessation of hostilities in exchange for the release of hostages, with a 72-hour window for implementation following approval. Trump expressed hope for Hamas’s acceptance of the initiative, warning of full support for Israel if the Palestinian group rejects it. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu endorsed the plan during a joint press conference.
Supporters of the proposal include several Arab and Islamic states, such as Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, which issued a collective statement backing the initiative. The plan remains contingent on Hamas’s response, with no indication of its approval at this time.
