Iran Vows Nuclear Treaty Exit in Response to U.S. Aggression

On May 24, Mohsen Rezaei, military adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, warned that continued threats and aggressive actions by the United States could prompt Tehran to withdraw from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

Tasnim news agency reported that Rezai stated: “Continued threats will lead to Iran’s withdrawal from the NPT.”

The adviser described a possible exit from the treaty as one of Tehran’s strategic options. Rezai added that if U.S. pressure intensified, Iran might take retaliatory measures, including breaking the naval blockade. He further indicated that Tehran would respond firmly in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf.

According to Tasnim, Iran does not intend to agree to U.S.-led inspections of its vessels after the lifting of the naval blockade. Rezai noted that a draft memorandum between Iran and the United States lacks provisions for such inspections or controls once restrictions are lifted.

U.S. President Donald Trump has emphasized that Washington will maintain the naval blockade against Iran until an agreement is reached, insisting that Iran must not be allowed to develop or acquire nuclear weapons.
