Iran’s Parliament Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy member Ebrahim Azizi stated on May 31 that the country will not make the Strait of Hormuz a subject of negotiations during conflict settlement processes.
The parliamentarian added that Iran also does not plan to discuss mechanisms for regulating navigation through the strait.
In his remarks, Azizi clarified: “We are not talking about the fact that we intend to use this issue as a subject of negotiations or to declare that the current mechanisms for regulating the Strait of Hormuz can be changed during or after negotiations.”
Earlier in the day, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reported 20 vessels had passed through the Strait of Hormuz with Iranian permission. Details regarding the nationalities of the ships and the nature of their cargo were not disclosed.
Azizi also noted that ships from Russia and China would receive special conditions when traversing the strait, emphasizing these nations’ longstanding support for Iran and their cooperation in challenging times.
