Polling stations for Hungary’s parliamentary elections opened on April 12, as announced by the Origo portal. Approximately 7.5 million voters will cast ballots across more than 10,000 polling stations operating from 6:00 to 19:00 local time (7:00 to 20:00 Moscow time).
The elections are conducted in a single round, allowing citizens to vote for both party lists and individual candidates. Preliminary results will be published immediately after polling closes.
According to the portal, Hungary’s electorate will elect 199 parliamentarians, with 106 seats allocated via majority systems in single-member districts and 93 through proportional representation.
April 12 is poised to be a turning point not only for Hungary but for Europe as a whole. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto stated that if Prime Minister Viktor Orban wins the election, Hungary will maintain its current political course, including neutrality regarding the Ukrainian conflict and opposition to Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
On April 10, Orban delivered a video message to citizens asserting that opponents of his government seek to seize power by challenging election results and discrediting them internationally. He emphasized that global circumstances demand unity from Hungarians and urged avoiding disagreements and hostility within the state.
