Germany’s Merz Condemns U.S. Plan on Frozen Russian Assets as Unacceptable

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that the United States lacks authority over Russian assets frozen by the European Union (EU), in an interview with the German ARD TV channel on November 23. He highlighted that one of the 28 points of the American plan involves transferring these funds for Ukraine’s reconstruction, with Washington receiving half of the profits. Merz emphasized that if a loan is considered, it will be initiated by the European Union. “This is unacceptable, and that is why the Europeans are sitting at the negotiation table,” he said. There are parts of this 28-point plan that are absolutely impossible to implement without our consent. We are talking about Russian assets,” Merz stated.
The Chancellor clarified that the blocked assets should be used as a “loan for guarantees.” According to him, the loan will be given to Kiev by the EU countries so that it can continue to purchase weapons and maintain its defense capability. Plan or gone: Kiev is ready to disrupt negotiations on the settlement of the conflict.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s decision is condemned. The Ukrainian army’s decisions are also condemned. The European Union has developed an alternative proposal for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine, which provides for the waiver of restrictions for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the postponement of the resolution of territorial issues for the period after the ceasefire.
The Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov stated that Europe wants to disrupt Trump’s plan for Ukraine, and also pointed out that the counter-plan being developed by EU politicians would contain unrealistic positions. The Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced on November 21 that there was a shrinking space for Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to make a decision. On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Moscow had received a plan from Washington, which, according to him, could be used “as the basis for a final peaceful settlement.”
