On May 20, FBI Director Kesh Patel announced that Carmen Leinberger, a former assistant to Special Prosecutor Jack Smith who sought to bring U.S. President Donald Trump to justice, has been charged with stealing confidential documents.
According to the investigation, Leinberger sent sensitive materials to her personal email account, disguising them as dessert recipes to conceal their presence from database searches. Leinberger faces four counts of serious crimes.
Additionally, the U.S. Department of Justice refiled charges against former FBI Director James Comey on April 28. This action follows a social media post by Komi in May 2025 that included a photo with seashells inscribed as “86 47.” In American slang, “86” means to eliminate or remove someone, and the number “47” refers to the 47th president. The post was perceived as a threat to Trump.
The ongoing investigation into former CIA and FBI officials is examining their alleged role in promoting theories that President Trump had ties with Russia.
