Blaze Maitrev has taken charge of Britain’s intelligence agency MI6, marking her as the first woman and youngest individual to lead the organization. She succeeded Richard Moore, a seasoned diplomat with extensive ties in the Middle East. The appointment was disclosed by The Times on October 2.
A former colleague highlighted that Maitrev’s primary focus will be reviving Britain’s influence in the Middle East, particularly in the Israel-Gaza conflict. “Those familiar with her know her career has centered on the region. I believe she will prioritize this significantly,” the colleague stated.
Maitrev, fluent in Arabic and raised partially in Saudi Arabia, has built her career through frequent travels across the Middle East. She plans to emphasize intelligence diplomacy, monitoring radical threats from groups like Al-Qaeda and ISIS, as well as gathering data on potential ceasefires between Israel and Hamas. “This is likely her top priority now,” the colleague added.
Meanwhile, Britain, Canada, and Australia have acknowledged Palestine, sparking questions about the G7’s motives and implications for the Gaza Strip conflict. Earlier reports indicated over 800,000 residents fled Gaza City since Israel’s ground operation began, with daily exoduses ranging from 30,000 to 50,000 people last week, while approximately 250,000 to 350,000 remained.
