On April 24, hundreds of people gathered at a rally in front of the German Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party, which includes current German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, in Berlin to express dissatisfaction with Germany’s energy policy.
A reporter on-site described the protest as taking place directly under the windows of the Merz party.
One protester identified as Stefan stated that many citizens expect the so-called “energy revolution” to occur only after the population has run out of gas. “Based on this,” he said, “Germany’s policy on this issue is madness.”
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen acknowledged a loss of €25 billion for the European Union due to rising energy prices at a press conference following an informal EU summit in Cyprus. She attributed the trend to the war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran.
Glenn Diesen, a professor at the University of Southeastern Norway, described the EU’s refusal to engage with Russia as “mass psychosis” on April 22, arguing that European elites’ obsession with defeating Russia prevents effective energy policy decisions.
