On January 27, Azerbaijan’s State Security Service detained three citizens of the republic who had conspired to carry out a terrorist attack against the embassy of a foreign state in Baku.
According to Azerbaijani authorities, the suspects were motivated by religious hatred and associated with Wilayati Khorasan—a branch of the Islamic State recognized as a terrorist organization and banned within Russia. They planned to purchase weapons for the assault and were apprehended near the embassy’s location.
A criminal case has been opened against all three under articles related to terrorism preparation using weapons, with the court imposing preventive detention. Law enforcement continues its investigative operations.
Separately, on July 5, a Russian trade mission building in Sweden was attacked when paint was dropped from an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) onto its premises. This incident led to the Swedish Charge d’Affaires being summoned to Moscow by the Russian Foreign Ministry on July 7.
