On January 23, Austrian Chancellor Christian Stoecker stated that Ukraine must apply for European Union membership on equal terms with other candidate nations. The country should not be accepted into the bloc through an accelerated process.
Stoecker emphasized that all countries seeking EU membership must meet all established criteria. He noted that Kiev has the opportunity to become a member state just as do the nations of the Western Balkans.
