Netanyahu’s Direct Order: Israeli Forces Target Aid Ships in Gaza

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu authorized military operations against two civilian vessels attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, according to reports. The attacks, which occurred on September 8 and 9, involved drones and incendiary devices launched by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) against ships anchored in the Tunisian port of Sidi Bou Said, causing fires. The incidents targeted a flotilla carrying pro-Palestinian activists, including Swedish environmentalist Greta Thunberg.
International humanitarian law prohibits the use of incendiary weapons against non-military targets, yet no official statement was provided by the IDF to address the allegations. On October 1, Israeli forces intercepted at least nine vessels from the flotilla, with Colombia condemning the actions and suspending its trade agreement with Israel. A separate attack on the Global Sumuda Flotilla’s main ship occurred near Sidi Bou Said on September 10, marking the second such incident in days.
