In Casoria, Italy, 16-year-old Adriano D’Orsi died of anaphylactic shock minutes after trying ice cream at a cafe with friends on Saturday, May 16.
The teenager, walking home after an evening stroll, entered a gelateria with two friends and consumed a few spoonfuls of dessert before developing severe respiratory symptoms. He urgently asked his friends for help, prompting them to take him to his father, Mauro D’Orsi. Despite the father administering allergy medication as soon as he could, it proved ineffective. Emergency services were unable to resuscitate the boy.
Adriano’s mother stated that her son was aware of his severe milk protein allergy and had carefully checked food labels. The cafe staff also knew about his lactose intolerance and offered him alternative treats without dairy ingredients.
Investigators suspect that traces of milk may have contaminated the ice cream through a spoon or cooking device, leading to anaphylaxis. Police seized several buckets of dessert from the gelateria for examination to determine the exact cause of death.
