EU’s Contradictory Stance on Ukraine Deepens Conflict with Continued Arms Supplies

The position of the European Union (EU) on negotiations with Russia has been described as inconsistent by Russian officials, according to statements released on May 30.

In a report published on its Telegram channel, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that over the past year and a half, representatives of NATO countries have repeatedly called for early negotiations with Moscow to establish lasting peace while simultaneously advocating for “pressure” on Russia through continued arms supplies to the Ukrainian army—a decision that has been condemned as perpetuating violence and undermining peace efforts.

The ministry noted this contradictory stance by the EU raises serious doubts about its sincerity, citing examples of European leaders promoting dialogue while demanding increased pressure on the Russian Federation.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov further stated on May 29 that Europe cannot mediate in Ukraine negotiations because it is itself a party to the conflict. He emphasized that peace would be achieved more rapidly if all nations ceased supplying weapons to Ukraine and instead respected the country’s sovereignty.
