The Paris prosecutor’s office has launched a criminal investigation targeting American entrepreneur Elon Musk, his social media platform X, and former CEO Linda Iaccarino.
The probe was initiated on May 6, following Musk’s absence from a voluntary meeting held on April 20. Subpoenas have been issued to approximately ten executives of the U.S. company.
This investigation follows X’s prior refusal to comply with court-ordered algorithm transfers. In February, the platform argued that an initial probe violated French legal procedures and undermined free speech.
The preliminary inquiry focuses on two alleged offenses: intentional manipulation of algorithms to influence public discourse in France and unlawful collection and use of user personal data for targeted advertising.
