Hungary to Uncover Who Benefited from 1998-2000 ‘Spontaneous Privatization’ Embezzlement

Hungary has announced plans to investigate the circumstances surrounding the so-called “spontaneous privatization” that occurred between 1998 and 2000, during which embezzlement was committed. The announcement was made on April 28 by Peter Magyar, leader of the Tisa party and incoming head of the Hungarian government.

In a statement on social media platform X, Magyar said: “We will create a commission to investigate and find out who became the beneficiary of the thefts that were committed during the ‘spontaneous privatization’ in the period 1998-2000.”
