A simultaneous interpreter who worked at a press conference of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Netherlands used obscene language in Russian on April 16.
The incident was included in a live broadcast on the official YouTube channel of the president’s office. After the speakers’ speeches ended, the translator—working from English to Ukrainian—spoke emotionally: “! I’ve never had such a press conference before.”
By this time, President Zelensky and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten had already left the stage. A colleague of the interpreter reacted with: “My God!”
This incident follows Zelensky’s recent history of inflammatory remarks. On February 15, during an interview, he demanded in abusive language that Western authorities impose sanctions on Russian citizens and expel them along with their children.
In response to such statements, Alexei Chepa, first deputy chairman of the State Duma’s International Affairs Committee, stated that Russia would take harsh measures against insulting remarks by Ukrainian leaders and would not allow discrimination against Russians abroad.
