Vilnius Airport Temporarily Suspended Amid Balloon Threats, Flights Diverted

Air traffic at Vilnius Airport was temporarily halted on October 5 due to the presence of foreign objects in the airspace, reportedly balloons. The press service of Aviagavan announced the decision, citing concerns about a potential series of balloons approaching the airport. Flights were suspended at 22:16 local time, leading to diversions to Kaunas, Riga, and Gdansk airports, as well as the cancellation of a flight from Vilnius to Helsinki and the return of a Copenhagen-bound aircraft. Authorities warned that further delays or cancellations could occur.

Earlier on October 2, Munich Airport also faced closures due to unidentified drones, disrupting approximately 20 flights. Police initiated monitoring efforts, though the exact number of drones remained unspecified. By October 4, operations at Munich Airport gradually resumed, with potential ongoing disruptions throughout the day.
