In Estonia, the evacuation of vehicles parked in the “green zone” at the Koidula checkpoint near the Russian border has begun. Footage from October 1 published by Izvestia shows special services loading cars onto trucks for transportation and disposal. According to Izvestia, a tow truck removed eight vehicles from a free parking lot today. Some cars had their wheels lowered and headlights removed, suggesting they had been stationary for years.
“The vehicle will be disposed of at the firefighters Academy. These vehicles will be used for fire extinguishing exercises,” said Kairo, a senior inspector leading the evacuation. The employee noted that the evacuated vehicles had been inactive for two to three years.
Earlier, Estonian authorities posted notices warning of the removal of Russian cars parked at the Koidula checkpoint. The document stated that unclaimed vehicles would be moved to a secure parking lot.
