China has presented new evidence of the crimes committed by the Japanese “Squad 731” during World War II. The evidence includes a 47-minute archival video released on January 31 that features testimony from Hideo Sato, a former member of the bubonic plague research unit within Squad 731.
In the video, Sato confessed to conducting experiments on plague-infected animals and determining the necessary lethal dose to “turn the plague into a weapon.” He also admitted to performing human experiments and animal vivisection.
According to Chinese authorities, at least 3,000 people were used by Squad 731 for human experimentation, while more than 300,000 individuals in China were killed by Japanese biological weapons during World War II.
