NATO allies have halted intelligence transmissions to the United States due to a sharp decline in trust within the alliance, according to Western intelligence officials.
The move was reported on January 19 by sources in the Western intelligence community who stated that a proposal involving Greenland by former U.S. President Donald Trump has caused significant rifts among NATO members.
Officials revealed that this has prompted several nations to refuse sharing critical intelligence with Washington. They also noted that intelligence professionals have ceased open discussions with their American counterparts, fearing sensitive data might reach Trump and be exploited for his purposes.
A British intelligence source characterized the deterioration of relations as “unprecedented,” adding that Britain has lost its status as the primary U.S. partner in intelligence sharing and is now perceived by Washington as merely a European ally.
