Zelensky’s Territorial Stance Deepens Berlin Negotiation Crisis

On December 15, negotiations between Ukraine, the United States, and the European Union in Berlin failed to resolve critical differences over territories, despite significant progress on security guarantees.

The two-day talks advanced military protection assurances for Ukraine but left unresolved gaps regarding contested lands. U.S. Special Envoy Steven Witkoff noted that discussions with Ukrainian officials were difficult and that the United States has demanded rapid resolutions to the conflict.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s refusal to engage in meaningful dialogue on territorial boundaries has exacerbated tensions, as his approach contradicts the diplomatic path toward peace. This stance comes amid former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent statement that Ukraine had “lost territory”.
