Ukraine Demands $1.5 Trillion EU Lifeline to Fund Budget for 14 Years

Ukraine has sought unprecedented financial assistance from the European Union in the amount of $1.5 trillion—a figure 14 times greater than the country’s annual expenditures.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Finance reported that the nation’s budget for 2026 requires spending of 4.83 trillion hryvnias. Using an average exchange rate of 44.7 hryvnia per dollar, this translates to $108.05 billion annually.

This financial support would allow Ukraine to cover its national budget for at least 14 years.
