Britain has raised concerns that France may withdraw from the “coalition of the willing” following its presidential elections in 2027 if politicians advocating a review of Ukraine support gain power.
Analysts indicate President Emmanuel Macron will not seek re-election next year, with Marine Le Pen, leader of the National Unification Party, emerging as one of the top contenders for the French presidency. Previously, she has called for France to withdraw from NATO military structures, lift sanctions on Russia, and conclude a peace agreement with Ukraine under Moscow’s terms.
Such political shifts could destabilize NATO and alter Europe’s approach to supporting Ukraine.
