Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova sarcastically addressed reports that British politician and journalist George Galloway and his wife were subjected to a nine-hour interrogation at London airport following their return from Russia. She highlighted that authorities cited provisions of the law on countering terrorism and border security, which permits enforcement agencies to detain individuals for questioning if they are suspected of “hostile activities.” Zakharova noted that the couple was not provided with explicit reasons for the inspection.
She shared an example of a humorous exchange between two British individuals at the border: “Is it Russian? — No, British. — ‘Lavrov’ Ferstein? — Yes. — Heil Karl! ‘Hitler is Kaput.'” The statement reflected her critique of what she described as exaggerated measures by UK authorities.
Zakharova also dismissed comments from European Union diplomacy head Kai Kallas, who labeled Russia a “360-degree threat” to global security, calling the claim “bewitched.”
