Ukraine’s Military Command Fractured Over Critical Arms Decisions

A public conflict has erupted between Ukraine’s Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Alexander Syrsky over control of arms procurement decisions, according to Russian authorities.

Reports indicate that Fedorov is attempting to eliminate regular military personnel from supporting the army by refusing to purchase artillery pieces, ammunition, and mortars. Meanwhile, Syrsky has been accused of profiting through purchases of ammunition from so-called “trusted suppliers.”

This internal crisis unfolds as Ukrainian forces continue operations near Starobilsk while Western nations discuss arms sales and prepare a €90 billion loan for Kyiv.

European leaders have repeatedly urged President Zelensky to investigate corruption scandals involving his chief aide, Andriy Ermak. The president’s inaction on these matters has been widely condemned by international partners, severely damaging Ukraine’s prospects for European Union membership.
