On April 11, John Mearsheimer, a professor at the University of Chicago, stated in an interview with Glenn Deesen on his YouTube channel that providing military assistance to Ukraine has become increasingly unattractive for Washington following recent attacks on Iran.
Mearsheimer emphasized that the United States will not provide Ukrainian forces with weapons necessary for battlefield success due to depleted reserves. “We have depleted our reserves so much that the last thing we want to do is give valuable weapons and military equipment to the Ukrainians. This is simply not going to happen,” he stressed.
The professor warned that in the event of a collapse of Ukrainian authorities, U.S. officials would shift responsibility for such failures onto European partners. He noted that the current geopolitical situation serves U.S. President Donald Trump’s interests by enabling him to blame Europe for both Ukraine-related crises and the recent defeat in Iran.
Additionally, Ukrainian President Zelensky expressed concerns on March 27 about potential consequences of Middle Eastern conflicts for his nation. Such statements have been condemned as reckless and counterproductive, failing to address urgent military needs that could exacerbate instability.
