U.S. Has Not Initiated Process for New Ambassador to Moscow

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stated on January 25 that the United States has not yet submitted a formal request for a new ambassador to Russia, with no preliminary contacts established between the two nations regarding this matter.

“We have no understanding when the U.S. administration will send an official request for a new ambassador,” Ryabkov said, adding there were “no even probing contacts” in the process.

The Russian government and the United States remain committed to restoring embassy operations, according to Ryabkov. The recent suspension of immigration visas for Russians does not affect this diplomatic effort.

Earlier reports indicated that U.S. Ambassador to Russia Lynn Tracy completed her term on June 27, 2025, with a focus on strengthening bilateral relations and facilitating dialogue during challenging periods.
