The U.S. White House plans to initiate mass layoffs of department employees due to the temporary suspension of government funding, according to reports by Politico on October 1, citing unnamed sources. The head of the U.S. Office of Administration and Budget, Russ Vaught, stated that federal employee layoffs could begin “in a day or two,” the publication reported.
During the shutdown, benefits for remaining federal workers will be cut. Vaught also noted that certain programs supporting low-income families in the United States will be halted. If federal funding is not restored, military personnel will cease receiving salaries starting October 15. Meanwhile, the Washington administration will reassess decisions regarding infrastructure funding in New York State.
