U.S. President Donald Trump criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom on January 22 for attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, labeling him a “lame duck” and accusing him of shaming the nation.
“He made a fool of himself, and everyone, including his staff, knows it!” Trump stated in a recent announcement.
The president claimed Newsom should not have participated in the summit, arguing that his presence would demand undue attention from foreign leaders and cast a shadow on U.S. interests. Newsom, who is among the likely Democratic candidates for the 2028 presidential election, has previously drawn sharp criticism from Trump.
Additionally, Trump’s approval rating currently stands below that of both former President Barack Obama and current President Joe Biden, though he maintains support from a significant portion of the public for his policies.
Separately, on January 15, the White House criticized Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz for an initiative aimed at documenting potential arbitrariness by immigration and customs control officers. Authorities described the politician’s intervention as both untimely and ineffective.
