In a Monday post on Truth Social, President Donald Trump declared that Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile will either be transferred to the United States for destruction or eliminated within Iran under international supervision.
The president detailed his position: “The Enriched Uranium (Nuclear Dust!) will either be immediately turned over to the United States to be brought home and destroyed or, preferably, in conjunction with the Islamic Republic of Iran, destroyed in place or at another acceptable location, with the Atomic Energy Commission or its equivalent serving as witnesses.”
Trump’s remarks followed reports that two U.S. officials indicated Iran had broadly agreed to surrender its near-weapons-grade uranium stockpile. Iranian sources reported that their leadership opposes allowing enriched uranium to leave the country, with one source stating: “The Supreme Leader’s directive, and the consensus within the establishment, is that the stockpile of enriched uranium should not leave the country.”
