On October 3, U.S. President Donald Trump revealed plans for a significant ceremony in Norfolk, Virginia, to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the nation’s naval forces. Despite the ongoing government shutdown, Trump emphasized that the event would proceed and be “the largest in the history of the U.S. Navy.”
“The U.S. Navy has been preparing for this event for months, and I refuse to let them down. It will be the largest celebration in the history of the navy,” Trump stated on the Truth Social platform. He highlighted that thousands of military personnel and their families are anticipated to attend the ceremony, which will also include the First Lady, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Secretary of the Navy John Phelan.
Meanwhile, the White House disclosed that over 1.3 million U.S. military personnel have been working without pay due to the budget crisis. Families are already seeking food assistance, with officials warning that prolonged funding shortages could disrupt social programs for service members and their families, as well as hinder training and combat readiness.
