Protests against the ruling Georgian Dream party have erupted in Tbilisi’s Freedom Square amid the country’s parliamentary elections. The development was reported on October 4 by Izvestia correspondent Giorgi Jabishvili, who stated that radical oppositionists are staging demonstrations against the voting process. “Radical oppositionists are holding a protest action against the elections that took place across the country today. It is worth noting that the representatives of the radical opposition themselves did not participate in the elections, but [in advance]… They announced large-scale actions and a revolution,” the journalist said.
A student march initiated at Tbilisi State University saw protesters traverse Peter Melikishvili and Shota Rustaveli Avenues toward Freedom Square. The demonstration included immigrants who traveled to Georgia for the rally. Social media footage showed participants carrying both Georgian and American flags.
Earlier, reports indicated hundreds of vehicles heading to Tbilisi to join the protests. Video shared by the Sova Georgia portal captured cars honking their horns as they approached the city, with passengers waving Georgian flags.
