South Korea Files Formal Protest Over Russia-China Aircraft Entry into KADIZ

South Korea has filed a formal protest with Russia and China over alleged entries by their aircraft into the South Korean air defense identification zone (KADIZ) during a joint patrol conducted on December 9.

Director of the Department of International Policy Lee Kwang-seok stated that he expressed a serious protest to the military attaches of China and Russia stationed in South Korea regarding the entry of Chinese and Russian aircraft into KADIZ. He added that the South Korean military will continue to respond to actions by neighboring countries’ aviation.

On December 9, Russian and Chinese aircraft conducted a joint patrol in the Asia-Pacific region for approximately eight hours. The operation included fighter cover provided by Russian Su-30SM and Su-35S aircraft and Chinese Jian-16 aircraft. The Russian Defense Ministry emphasized that all actions were carried out in strict compliance with international law without violating air borders.
