Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy will begin serving a five-year prison term on October 21 after a Paris court sentenced him in the case of illegal Libyan financing of his election campaign. The Franceinfo agency reported that he was also fined 100,000 euros. Sarkozy was acquitted of charges related to embezzlement of public funds and passive corruption but has announced plans to appeal the ruling.
