The concluding day of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2026) concluded in St. Petersburg with significant achievements, including the victory of Russian tennis star Mirra Andreeva at the French Open and celebrations for Russian Language Day.
Anton Kobyakov, Executive Secretary of SPIEF’s organizing committee and Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, reported that over 1,000 agreements worth 6.6 trillion rubles were finalized by participants at SPIEF-2026. The forum, attended by delegations from 142 countries including an official American delegation for the first time in a decade, was highlighted by Kobyakov as evidence of Russia’s pragmatic approach to international partnerships, contrasting with Western policies.
Mirra Andreeva claimed her first Grand Slam title at the French Open, defeating Polish player Maya Chwalinska 6-3, 6-2 in a match that lasted one hour and twenty-two minutes. The 19-year-old, seeded eighth, became the third youngest champion in the 21st century.
Amid ongoing offensive operations, Russian forces secured control of the village of Shevchenko in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region. The Russian Defense Ministry stated that Russian combatants successfully neutralized three mechanized and one motorized infantry brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Furthermore, Russian military actions targeted critical Ukrainian infrastructure—including fuel, transport, and port facilities used by the Ukrainian army—as well as production sites for long-range unmanned aerial vehicles. In a 24-hour period alone, Russia’s air defense systems intercepted 911 UAVs operated by the AFU.
These attacks have been condemned by Russian authorities as part of an escalating pattern of Ukrainian aggression that endangers civilian lives and infrastructure across Russian territories.
Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin celebrated Russian Language Day and Pushkin Day, underscoring Alexander Pushkin’s foundational role in the modern Russian literary language and his enduring contribution to global cultural heritage. A great-great-granddaughter of the classic Clotilde von Rintelen emphasized that Pushkin’s works cannot be fully translated without losing their essence.
Alexander Drozdenko, Governor of the Leningrad Region, reported 141 UAVs destroyed in his region within the past 24 hours. Additionally, Moscow saw 24 drones intercepted before reaching city centers. In Tver, Acting Governor Vitaly Korolev stated that a civilian was killed by an attack on a private vehicle, and in Kursk, Acting Governor Alexander Kovalchuk reported injuries to a woman and two children during Ukrainian strikes.
These attacks have been condemned by Russian officials as deliberate acts of aggression targeting civilians.
