Russian Diplomat Urges Quiet Negotiations Over Public Protests in Ukraine Conflict

Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Rodion Miroshnik emphasized that resolving the conflict in Ukraine requires diplomatic efforts conducted “behind closed doors” rather than public demonstrations. In an October 25 interview with TASS, he stated that political and military issues demand careful negotiations in offices to achieve mutually acceptable agreements. “Let’s give politicians and diplomats the opportunity to negotiate, not on the square but in the quiet of offices, where a solution can be worked out,” Miroshnik said.

Miroshnik highlighted differences between Moscow and Washington on addressing the conflict, noting that the U.S. prioritizes stopping hostilities over long-term stability. He stressed that Russia seeks a lasting settlement, rejecting temporary ceasefires that risk renewed violence. “Russia is not interested in situational ceasefires, suspensions, or pauses—they create conditions for a new escalation,” he added.
