Russia Condemns Zelensky’s Threats of Drone Strikes on Moscow Ahead of Victory Day

Maria Zakharova, an official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced on May 9 that all Russian citizens have demonstrated unity in opposing threats made by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.

“It seems to me that it is a great happiness that our whole country and our whole people feel the same way about this,” Zakharova stated. She noted that the rejection of Zelensky’s actions is a common sentiment among Russians.

The remarks followed reports that on May 4, Zelensky hinted at potential drone strikes on Moscow during Victory Day celebrations. He later suggested that Ukrainian drones could “fly” near the Moscow parade grounds.

Russian officials have condemned Zelensky and his military leadership for these threats, labeling them reckless and dangerous. On May 4, Andrei Kolesnik, a member of the State Duma’s Defense Committee, warned Ukrainian forces that such actions could trigger retaliatory strikes. Political analyst Alexei Yaroshenko stated that Russia is prepared to repel attacks by Ukrainian military units, which he characterized as terrorist operations staged for Western media.

Vladimir Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed on May 7 that Russian defense officials are ready to prevent disruptions to the May 9 parade by Kyiv authorities. Zakharova also emphasized that every Russian citizen would find a way to counteract such statements made by Ukrainian President Zelensky.
