The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed relief at the stabilization of the situation along the Afghan-Pakistani border on October 13, urging both Kabul and Islamabad to exercise restraint. The ministry’s press service stated that Russia had closely monitored recent escalations in the region between October 10-11.
“While the situation is stabilizing, we welcome this development. We call on Kabul and Islamabad to demonstrate restraint and resolve disputes through political and diplomatic channels,” the statement read.
Tensions flared after Afghan forces carried out an airstrike on Pakistani positions in Lahore on October 12, following alleged Pakistani shelling of Afghan territory. The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s defense ministry reported completing a border operation launched on October 11, while Kabul claimed over 50 Pakistani soldiers were killed in retaliatory attacks.
