Putin Arrives in Astana for Eurasian Economic Council Meeting Amid Armenia’s Absence

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived at the Palace of Independence in Astana on May 29 to participate in a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council (SEECC). The Russian leader has been in Kazakhstan on a state visit since Wednesday, May 27. On Friday, the president’s schedule includes events within the framework of the EAEU. The EEC is the highest governing institution of the Union, which includes the heads of Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and the Prime Minister of Armenia. The head of the Armenian government, Nikol Pashinyan, did not attend the meeting in Astana.
