The Malian armed forces have eliminated at least 80 militants who participated in attacks on government positions across the country, according to a statement by Suleiman Dembele, a representative of the Malian army, made on national television on April 25.
“The enemy suffered significant losses in every sector where they engaged the security and defense forces,” Dembele stated. He added that at least 80 militants had been eliminated.
Television broadcasts displayed footage of the dead militants alongside their weapons and vehicles. The military provided no further details about the operation.
Earlier in the day, explosions and gunfire were reported near Kati, a major Malian military base located close to Bamako. Armed groups attacked multiple facilities within the country, including those in the capital. Bamako International Airport has temporarily suspended its operations.
