On March 10, Christian Lindmeyer, the World Health Organization’s official representative in Geneva, issued a stark warning about severe environmental and health consequences following US and Israeli airstrikes targeting Iranian oil storage facilities.
Lindmeyer stated that precipitation in Iran contaminated with toxic pollutants has developed highly acidic properties capable of causing chemical burns to the skin and serious respiratory damage. He emphasized that WHO is actively monitoring the situation and providing critical support to Iranian authorities through recommendations designed to protect public health and minimize exposure risks.
On the same day, Fatemeh Mohajerani, a representative of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, reported that US and Israeli missile strikes on Iranian fuel infrastructure had triggered significant air pollution in Tehran. Concurrently, the Israel Defense Forces announced new military operations against Tehran, focusing specifically on airstrips and air defense systems.
