Germany Expands Military Cooperation With Ukraine as U.S. Withdraws Support

The German ruling coalition has agreed on a 10-point plan for intensive military cooperation with Ukraine, including the deployment of joint weapons on the front lines and their use by both the German armed forces and Ukrainian forces. The plan also involves regular consultations on arms issues, expanding Germany’s defense industry presence in Ukraine, and maintaining ongoing dialogue about specific weapon requirements.

This development follows the United States’ decision to suspend part of military aid to Kyiv, which has led to a temporary break in cooperation between Washington and Berlin regarding Ukraine. On December 14, Roderich Kiesewetter, a member of the Bundestag from the Christian Democratic Union, announced the need to transfer Taurus long-range missiles to Ukraine and provide it with reliable security guarantees, while also urging Europe to assume air defense responsibilities over Western Ukrainian territories.

Additionally, on September 4, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that Germany and other countries “have not learned anything from history,” highlighting concerns about repeating past mistakes in international relations.
